The key is to "speak up" and ask questions when you enter the hospital!
Prior to entering the hospital become knowledgeable on your treatment. Know what to expect. The internet can provide valuable information allowing you to take a more active role in your treatment.
ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS. Make a list and have it ready when the nurse of doctor stops by. Repeat the questions every day if necessary!
Don't stop asking questions until you understand the answers. Tell them to answer in terms you understand.
List all medications you're given, include the dosage and what time you took them. Why? You're medical file may not include every pill you are taking. Or a new doctor may have trouble reading another doctor's handwriting.
Enlist helpful family members or friends to help you. You may not be as aware as you need to be if your medications are making you groggy.
Reduce RISKS. A lot of problems occur because medical people leave tubes in you that can cause infections. Ask a doctor do I need this tube? If the answer is NO, make sure it is removed quickly.
